Sixth Annual Nebraska Star Party
August 7-14, 1999

Welcome to NSP-6!

As in previous years, our mission has been to surround premier dark skies with an event the entire family can enjoy. In addition to the NSP daytime activities, there are many things to see and do in the Valentine area. For ideas and details, please consult this Program Guide and the other materials in your registration packet.

During NSP-5 we introduced a Field School for beginners and moved the catered meals to the Snake Campground. These proved to be popular changes. Despite our caterer retiring and our Field School instructor being unable to repeat, we will again hold these events. I would like to thank Dave Hamilton, Dave Knisely, and John Johnson for ensuring these activities remain a part of NSP.

Each year a small but dedicated group of volunteers steps forward to ensure the next NSP is a success. Please join me in recognizing this year's team:

Doug Bell - Clear Skies Coordinator
Clark & Deb Cheney - door prizes, vendors
Mark Dahmke - publicity, web site, t-shirt design
Dave Hamilton - speakers, field school
John Johnson - catered meals
Dave Knisely - astrophoto and ATM contests, field school
Tom Miller - treasurer, registrations
Bill O'Donnell - publications, deep sky challenge
Jim Rippey - coordinator, activities
Jason Stahl - t-shirts

This group is truly a volunteer force, not even free registration. Their pride in NSP is obvious and I know they share my desire to ensure your experience is enjoyable. Please let us know if you have questions, suggestions, or concerns. As usual, survey forms will be available at the High School during the Friday program.

Clear skies!

Jim
